Coke & Mentos
(To see movie click on the button above)
Garrett Sanford and Dan Worley demonstrate the Coke & Mentos powered car they built for their "Newton's Nightmare" project -- but things don't go quite as planned. All students built a machine or device and had to explain how it worked using Newton's Laws of motion and other principles of physics. Onlookers are classmates Brianna Barkhimer, Brittany Leiby, Matt Ironwing, Matt Kelley, Mark Williams, Paula Lower, Spencer Dennis, and Rachel Chapman.
"Pride, Accountability and Caring"
(To see movie click on the button above)
One of the BRHS "Pride, Accountability and Caring" groups builds teamwork skills through a set of three challenges: tying a knot in a "human rope", tying a pair of shoelaces while holding hands, and (similarly) tying closed a balloon. Pictured are Casey Unger, Tyler Will, Ryan Schoenbeck, Cassondra Zumack, Nicole Thoerner, Paige White, Ben Unangst, Josh Prostejovsky, Diego Pardeda, Alex Vonderau and Dr. V (PAC advisor). PAC groups meet monthly and participate in activities designed by each department. Next month: Junk Sculptures.
"Motion"
(To see movie click on the button above)
As part of the "Motion" unit, students in freshman Physical Science measure the acceleration and deceleration of a steel ball rolling down a shallow ramp and onto a level track. Students place pennies at the location of the ball each second, as indicated by a metronome. They'll later analyze their displacement-versus-time plots for signs of acceleration. From the rear: Brooke Stefano, Dakota Kuntz, Alex Kramer and (hand only) Hannah Powell.
