View Black River Local Schools

Dear Senior Parent,

This year will be both exciting and challenging as we prepare to graduate the class of 2018. I will be working closely with seniors to ensure that they have all necessary information to move toward “life after high school”.

For students who will be attending 4-year colleges, 2-year colleges, or other institutions of higher education, the following information will be regularly distributed to them. Also, the Black River website Guidance link will display Senior Announcements.

Please read the following information and remind your child to pay attention to deadlines. It is important to remember that colleges differ in application submission and scholarship competition.

All official transcripts, letters of recommendation, and the school profile MUST be mailed from the

Guidance Office.

*If you apply on line, inform the Guidance Office immediately. Download the information required

of a college and bring those forms to our office.

It is imperative that the colleges receive all required data uniformly; otherwise forms may get misplaced

or lost in the College Admissions Office. Applications, generally, should be submitted prior to

November 1st as this often is a college scholarship deadline.

Seniors will receive three excused absence days to visit college campuses. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. You must call the college admissions office to set up the appointment.

Seniors must have a Black River High School planned absence form filled out three days in advance and returned to the school’s main office before their college visit.

Throughout this fall, college recruiters will be visiting Black River High School. The schedule will be posted in the Senior English classes and seniors may sign up to attend the sessions. This is an excellent way to receive updated information from colleges.

Most money that your child will receive for college will come directly or indirectly from the college he/she will be attending. This money will be determined by the information the college receives from the FAFSA form (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

At anytime this year, you may go on-line to and receive a pin number and an estimate as to how much financial aid may be awarded to your child.

The authentic registration October 1, 2016.

Colleges offer scholarships to students who maintain a high GPA, have high ACT or SAT scores, and demonstrate leadership and perform community service.

State and Local scholarship applications will be made available routinely as we receive them in the Guidance Office. Remind your student to continually check the list of available scholarships that will be posted in both the Guidance Office and on our website.

I sincerely wish you and your senior a successful and rewarding year. Please hold on to this information and feel free to call me regarding any concerns you may have (419-736-3303 x 203).

Yours truly,

Mary Lou Ford
