Book Pocket Homework

Please make sure your child is reading their book pocket on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights.  It is very important for your child to keep rereading the story to work on building fluency. Fluency is reading quickly and accurately with expression.  Fluency is an important skill to master because it helps to aid comprehension.  This is because your child will be focusing less on trying to figure out the words, and more on what the words are saying.  Practicing the repeated reading of texts will help your child develop their own fluency.  After your child has read the story to you, please be sure to ask them simple comprehension questions to make sure that they are retaining what they are reading.  For example, “Who are the characters, who was the main character, what was the setting, problem/solution, what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story, and what was your favorite part?” Please help your child fill out the reading log and return it to school on Thursday.  Please also have your child practice their sight words that are in their book pocket each night too.

                  Valentine’s Day Party

Our Valentine’s Day Party will be on February 15th at 2:30p.m. If your child would like to pass out valentines, please send them to school with your child in the morning.  We will be exchanging valentines in the morning

Winter Dress

Students will be going outside for recess daily if the temperature is at least 21 degrees (including wind chill). Please be sure to dress your child according to the weather.  Hats, gloves, boots, scarves, and snow pants are encouraged.  Please remember to send shoes for your child to change into on the days they wear boots to school.
